Software

Figma, Miro, Slack, Worksection.

Background

Project description

The project started when we were approached by another company tasked with developing the platform. Since they lacked in-house designers, we collaborated closely. At this point, the project hadn't officially kicked off, and teams hadn't been formed yet. We participated in the pre-sale discussions alongside the platform owners. After deliberating on the MVP (Minimum Viable Product), it was decided that we would progress to the pre-production stage, focusing on creating UX artifacts and concepts. Pending client approval, we would then proceed with the project.

In the initial phases, we gathered information from the client and conducted research to construct user personas for each role. We developed multiple user scenarios to grasp the core functionality and crafted a mind map for the platform. There were some challenges in obtaining user data, particularly due to the legal status of the athletes, which Canadian law safeguards as kids. Even after consulting a lawyer, the client was content with the outcome. Subsequently, we moved on to conceptual development.

The following phase encompassed actual production, where we worked closely with the developers to verify the implementation of fundamental functionality. Adapting for mobile use and the capability for one coach to oversee multiple teams from different schools presented the most significant challenges. The darkening design phase was completed within the estimated timeframe. The client conducted prototype testing in Figma, and we were ready to transition the project into development.

User Personas

We have created five user personas for the project:

  • Coach
  • Highly motivated parent
  • Moderately motivated parent
  • Highly motivated athlete
  • Moderately motivated athlete

User Scenarios

To thoroughly analyze the sequence of user interactions across various platform we created user scenarios.

User Flow

We created a flow chart for each role on the platform, taking into account the information that we received from the user scenarios.

UI Concepts

We created three concepts, trying to stick closer to flat design. Though client also wanted to see something unique so one of the concepts was designed in neubrutalism.

Summary

We finalized the design for every user role and addressed all MVP functionality requirements. The client was satisfied, leading us to plan for the project's onward progression. Post-testing phase, we'll integrate new features and introduce additional user roles.
